Ich habe zu Hause ein blaues Klavier.
Und kenne doch keine Note.
Es steht im Dunkel der Kellertür,
seitdem die Welt verrohte.
Es spielten Sternenhände vier
– Die Mondfrau sang im Boote –
Nun tanzen die Ratten im Geklirr.
Zerbrochen ist die Klaviatür.
Ich beweine die blaue Tote.
Ach liebe Engel öffnet mir
– Ich aß vom bitteren Brote –
Mir lebend schon die Himmelstür-
Auch wider dem Verbote.
„Spielen ist alles“, lautete eine von Else Lasker-Schülers Devisen. Sie entwirft sich selbst als eine Märchenfigur: „Ich bin in Theben (Ägypten) geboren, wenn ich auch in Elberfeld zur Welt kam, im Rheinland. Ich ging bis elf Jahre zur Schule, wurde Robinson, lebte fünf Jahre im Morgenlande, und seitdem vegetiere ich.“ 1933 floh sie als schon berühmte Malerin und Dichterin zunächst nach Zürich und dann nach Israel. 1943 erscheint ihr letzter Gedichtband, benannt nach dem Gedicht „Mein blaues Klavier“. Darin beklagt sie den Verlust der Schönheit, der Mondfrau-Mutter, die Verrohung der Welt und bittet: „Ach liebe Engel öffnet mir – Ich aß vom bitteren Brote – mir lebend schon die Himmelstür, auch wider dem Verbote.“ Else Lasker-Schüler starb am 22. Januar 1945, da war aus dem glitzernden Mädchen, schon eine gezeichnete alte Frau geworden, die verstört durch die Straßen von Jerusalem lief. „Ich glaube, so hat Niemand barfuß sein Herz durch die Menge gehen lassen wie ich.“
